Britain is being over-run by mutant super rats immune to poison

Daily Star: The rodents, which carry killer diseases, are booming because of a freak toxin-resistant gene. Two more mutated strains of the pests have now been found in Sussex, adding to fears they are quickly spreading. The new rats are believed to have come from the continent, most likely France. They are being helped by humans putting out poisoned food, which gives the new breed a “free meal”.

Dr Dougie Clarke, of the University of Huddersfield, said: “Poisons such as the ones you buy in B&Q are not effective against them, nor are those used by pest control experts. There are obviously health concerns and worries about the bacteria they carry, such as salmonella. They carry a lot of diseases, including Weil’s, which has been linked to deaths. They also chew on electrical cables.”

'Superheroes' nab attacker in Musselburgh Tesco

BBC: A group of people dressed as Batman, Robin, David Hasselhoff and a Smurf helped police officers catch a criminal in an East Lothian supermarket. A man dressed as Robin was on Eskview Road in Musselburgh when he was assaulted just before 8.00pm on Friday. He and his friends, who were all in fancy dress, called police before chasing the attacker into Tesco. After a scuffle in the toilet roll aisle, a 21-year-old man was arrested. He later pled guilty in court.

Broadcaster John Cole dies aged 85

BBC: Cole was the BBC's chief reporter during the Thatcher era, and became a popular face on TV and radio, covering major stories including the miners' strike and the Brighton bombing. He worked at both the Guardian and the Observer, before succeeding John Simpson to the role of political editor at the BBC in 1981. With his incisive interview style and distinctive accent, Cole was immortalised by a Spitting Image puppet, cementing his status as a household name. He was presented with the Royal Television Society's Journalist of the Year award in 1991 and Bafta's Richard Dimbleby Award in 1993.

LAX Shooting: Drills, Mannequins and ‘The New World Order’

21st Century Wire: When we last left off, we learned that the Los Angeles Police Department  had conducted an “active shooter drill” in October with the Los Angeles Airport Police Department at the L.A./Ontario International Airport, playing out the exact scenario that took place at LAX on Friday, 1 November. We also outlined how this may be used to arm TSA agents, who are not sworn peace officers. While it is a truly tragic event, we can’t ignore the bizarre anomalies surrounding this case.  Photographs obtained from a Facebook page by the name of Team LAX were referenced in an article by Digital Journalism on Saturday, 2 November. The Team LAX page is  the official event page for the LAX Airport Police and the images were posted on 8 October.

Here is a description of the photos from the same post on Facebook: “As we posted previously, this past weekend Airport Police officers participated in an active shooter drill at Ontario Airport. An integral part of this training were the many volunteers who brought reality to the scenario by acting as victims. These “victims” were actually Youth Cadets from Airport Police and several divisions of the LAPD. 69 cadets participated on Saturday and 115 on Sunday. We’d like to thank all the Youth Cadets for their participation and boundless energy in making this training so realistic for our officers.”

Fracking pinpointed as cause of Texas earthquakes

NaturalNews: Yet another study has linked fracking and similar oil and gas mining practices to earthquakes, this time in Texas. The new study was conducted by researchers from China University of Geosciences and the University of Texas at Austin and published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The researchers analyzed 93 separate earthquakes that took place in Texas between March 2009 and December 2010. They found that many of the earthquakes occurred shortly after oil and gas companies had injected carbon dioxide into their wells.

"The timing of gas injection suggests it may have contributed to triggering the recent seismic activity," the researchers wrote. "If so, this represents an instance where gas injection has triggered earthquakes having magnitudes 3 and larger."

EDF paid £3million to shut down Scottish wind farm

Telegraph: EDF Energy was handed the sum between April and October to shut down turbines on the Fallago Rig wind farm. The “constraint payments”, which averaged around £500,000 per month, are given to wind farm companies for not producing energy during periods of high generation or low demand. This usually happens when it is too windy, in order not to overload the National Grid, but can also occur when maintenance work on the Grid is being carried out. The 48–turbine development started generating electricity in January but only completed testing and came fully online in May.  The transmission network lacks the capacity to transport much of the electricity generated by wind farms in rural Scotland to urban centres in England where demand is highest.

Bid to keep No10 files secret halts Iraq report

Daily Mail: The long-awaited report into how Britain went to war in Iraq has been delayed indefinitely by a row over new transcripts of conversations between Gordon Brown, Tony Blair and George W Bush. Inquiry chairman Sir John Chilcot has revealed that he has asked for ‘more than 130 records of conversations’ between the three men to be declassified. His demands have been blocked by Cabinet Secretary Sir Jeremy Heywood, Britain’s most senior civil servant.

In a letter released on the inquiry website, Sir John says the snarl-up has led him to delay the ‘Maxwellisation process’, which requires him to inform senior politicians and civil servants if he plans to criticise them in his final report. MPs last night voiced fears that the inquiry may never conclude and that it is ‘beyond a joke’ to let the costs to taxpayers spiral further than the £7.4million it has already cost.

US Army's Top Secret Arctic City Under the Ice

Forbidden Knowledge TV: It's not every day the one has the opportunity to observe the construction of a secret underground base. A newly released video is an actual declassified US Army film, documenting the nuclear-powered construction process of Camp Century, beneath the ice of central Greenland. The base was constructed in the late 1950s, during the height of the Cold War, for "research" purposes.

To study the feasibility of working under the ice, a "cover" project, known as Camp Century was launched in 1960. However, unsteady ice conditions within the ice sheet caused the project to be cancelled in 1966. It eventually came out that the ultimate objective of Camp Century was of placing medium-range missiles under the ice - close enough to Moscow to strike targets within the Soviet Union. This was kept secret from the Danish government, which owns Greenland and which was legally a "nuclear free zone", in keeping with Danish policy.
