Doomwatch 39 - Andy Thomas - Crop Circles 2014

Friday 5th September 2014, 6.00pm-8.00pm UK on Peterborough FM

You are invited to join host alex:g and Text Jockey Lexy Manning for the 39th edition of the radio show DOOMWATCH.  The usual mix of news stories, comment and audience interaction, with special guest Andy Thomas, author of The Truth Agenda, who will be telling us all about this year's incredible crop circles in the UK, something now ignored by the mainstream media. It seems hard to believe that these incredible designs are still credited to a pair of old guys using just string and planks of wood!

There will also be more information about the forthcoming "Your Constitution - Your Health" weekend conference, including the announcement of the first wave of speakers who will be attending.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to action by ATVOD, the 'Authority' for Television On Demand services in the UK, DOOMWATCH can only be watched in sound and vision LIVE by visiting www.ukcolumn.org/live. ATVOD is the organisation which says it did not force the UK Column to take down their 'On Demand' videos from YouTube, but neglect to mention the threat of a £250,000 fine if the UK Column continued to make its 'On Demand' videos available.

ATVOD - you really can't say one thing and then deny the repercussions of such were not anything to do with you...

On Friday 19th September, at 8.00pm, at Burgess Hill, Andy will be giving his annual round-up of all the year’s UK crop formations, including the East Sussex events, and looking at the best of the overseas glyphs, uncovering the intriguing and fascinating circular events of 2014.  Andy will be looking one-by-one at each and every new formation in the UK with insightful analysis, and puts them into context with the wider history of this ever-controversial but stunningly beautiful phenomenon. He will also cover the lively theories and debates which still surround it.

So that’s Friday 19 September 2014, at 8.00pm PROMPT. Admission £7.00.  The Scout Centre, Station Road, Burgess Hill, West Sussex, RH15 9EN. A large car park is available, and we are just five minutes’ walk from Burgess Hill railway station. Details of Changing Times and how to get to the Scout Centre can be found at:  www.changingtimes.org.uk

Tory MPs canvassed over support for air strikes in Iraq and Syria

Conservative MPs are being questioned by Downing Street about whether they could be prepared to support air strikes in Iraq and Syria.

Tory whips have been canvassing opinion among some backbenchers about the prospect of a military intervention. Sources played down the disclosure and said that it is not a sign any decision has been taken on whether to launch air strikes. However, they conceded that the mood amongst Conservative MPs is “hardening” in favour of military action.

In the event of any air strikes, the Government will want to avoid a repeat of last year’s debacle over the military intervention in Syria, when a rebellion by Conservative MPs took Downing Street by surprise. On that occasion, the whips office only started canvassing opinion in the 24 hours before the Parliamentary vote. David Cameron is facing growing calls to join US air strikes in Iraq. The Prime Minister has also said that there would be no legal obstacle to a bombing campaign in Syria.

Masked group that gathered to block eviction are ‘my saviours’

A disabled woman from an Ilkeston village hailed an action group, members of which she has never met, as her ‘saviours’ after they stepped in amid moves to evict her from her home. Some 30 members of the Response Midlands campaign and other affiliated groups — some of whom wore masks — gathered outside the home of Michelle Wheatley, 54, on Coronation Road in Stanley village as part of a peaceful protest as bailiffs arrived.

The group, who were all strangers before they met to stand up for Mrs Wheatley, heard via Facebook that the mother-of-four and grandmother-of-eight was to be evicted, and travelled from around the East Midlands, they say, to protect her legal rights. Dozens arrived at the house from 9.30am, and when bailiffs, police and a locksmith arrived separately at around midday, they took stock of the situation and left without attempting to enter the house.

Michelle and her husband Barry, 58, own the house and have a mortgage on the property. They were not present when the bailiffs arrived. Forklift-truck driver Barry was at work while Michelle was attending an emergency appeal meeting to dispute the eviction threat. The Advertiser understands the action relates to an alleged historic debt.

Killer robots a small step away and must be outlawed, says top UN official

Killer robots programmed to open fire without human control are just a “small step” from the battlefield and military powers should agree to outlaw them, a top United Nations official has said.

Angela Kane, the UN’s high representative for disarmament, said governments should be more open about programmes to develop the technology and she favoured a pre-emptive ban before it was too late.

Disease modellers project a rapidly rising toll from Ebola

Alessandro Vespignani hopes that his latest work will turn out to be wrong. In July, the physicist from Northeastern University in Boston started modelling how the deadly Ebola virus may spread in West Africa. Extrapolating existing trends, the number of the sick and dying mounts rapidly from the current toll—more than 3000 cases and 1500 deaths—to around 10,000 cases by September 24, and hundreds of thousands in the months after that. “The numbers are really scary,” he says—although he stresses that the model assumes control efforts aren't stepped up. "We all hope to see this NOT happening," Vespigani writes in an e-mail.

  • Ebola virus spread from Guinea to Sierra Leone due to a herbalist who claimed to be able to cure disease
  • Infected people were travelling from Guinea to Sierra Leone for treatment
  • She became infected and transmitted the virus to mourners who touched her body
  • Deadly disease has killed more than 1,200 people since the start of the year

U.S. General: “We Helped Build ISIS” – Islamic State Obtained Weapons from U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya

During an appearance on Fox News, General Thomas McInerney acknowledged that the United States “helped build ISIS” as a result of the group obtaining weapons from the Benghazi consulate in Libya which was attacked by jihadists in September 2012.

Asked what he thought of the idea of arming so-called “moderate” Syrian rebels after FSA militants kidnapped UN peacekeepers in the Golan Heights, McInerney said the policy had been a failure. “We backed I believe in some cases, some of the wrong people and not in the right part of the Free Syrian Army and that’s a little confusing to people, so I’ve always maintained….that we were backing the wrong types.” Then made reference to a Bret Baier Fox News special set to air today which will, “show some of those weapons from Benghazi ended up in the hands of ISIS – so we helped build ISIS.”

David Cameron ‘misses the point’ by not giving Rotherham a standalone inquiry

Prime minister David Cameron has been accused of ‘missing the point’ by not announcing a standalone inquiry into the Rotherham child abuse scandal. Home secretary Theresa May will be chairing a group of ministers to make sure that lessons are learned from Rotherham before the beginning of the historical abuse inquiry. The move has concerned the charity 4Children, which has warned that without a separate inquiry the issue will be lost, especially when compared to the scope of such a large inquiry spanning decades.

A 4Children spokesperson said she was concerned Cameron indicated, in his announcement during Prime Minister Questions, that any Rotherham inquiry would be incorporated into the historical child abuse inquiry. This will give “the false impression that this issue is in the past and does not reflect the horrific reality that children continue to be subjected to abuse today,” the charity claimed.

BP could face up to $18bn in extra fines after US ruling on Gulf of Mexico spill

BP could face up to £11bn in further fines after being found guilty of gross negligence for the Deepwater Horizon blowout that killed 11 workers and led to millions of barrels of oil spewing into the Gulf of Mexico. The oil firm had repeatedly expressed confidence it could avoid such a damning verdict over America's biggest offshore oil accident but a US district judge, Carl Barbier, ruled on Thursday that BP had been reckless as well as negligent.

The long-awaited decision from the New Orleans court hit the firm's share price – which fell by 5%, wiping more than £5bn off its stock market value – despite BP promising to launch an appeal. The firm has already paid out or set aside in penalties or compensation more than $43bn as a result of the accident and has periodically been tipped as a takeover target in its weakened state. The judge apportioned 67% of the blame for the disaster to BP, 30% with its US rig operator, Transocean, and 3% for Texan-based well expert Halliburton.

Journalist Arrested For Photographing NATO Security Barriers

A journalist was arrested, DNA swabbed and held in a prison cell for taking photographs of police security barriers on a public street in Cardiff as the lockdown surrounding the NATO summit in Wales resembles what some have described as an “open air prison.” Mohammed Esufali was taking pictures of yellow security barriers in Queen Street at around 4am on Tuesday morning in preparation for his coverage of the summit, during which he is set to work with RT’s Ruptly news agency.

Esufali was immediately approached by four police officers who jumped out of a nearby van and questioned about why he was taking the photos, asked for his ID and told that he was being stopped under terrorism laws. One of the officers threatened Esufali with being detained for three months without charge or trial.

Esufali explained that he was taking the photos at 4am because the streets were empty and he wanted to avoid capturing other people in the images. Officers checked Esufali’s drivers license before seizing his phone to obtain its IMEI number, which is used to track locations and download private data. Police also read through Esufali’s text messages before asking him to look at a CCTV camera so his image could be captured.

Primary school pupil's verdict on President Obama after meeting him and David Cameron as they visited Welsh classroom on their way to Nato summit

Pupils at a Welsh primary school were today left stunned when Barack Obama and David Cameron walked into their classroom. Mr Obama greeted the smiling youngsters of Mount Pleasant Primary School in Welsh by saying ‘bore da’ - ‘good morning’.  He then listened to a welcome message, thanking him for being the first serving US president to visit Wales. The road along Ruskin Avenue was faced by the sight of scores of police officers and the presidential convoy pulling up at the school gates.

But one pupil, Ben Thornton, said he wasn't sure if the President would return to the country, despite the schoolboy's best efforts to encourage him to. In a slightly confused tone of voice, he added: 'I think he wants to sell ice cream or something.'

Flu vaccines to be offered to all primary school pupils

Children, aged two and over, and all primary school children will be offered the flu vaccination from next Thursday. The move is the second phase of the Public Health Agency's (PHA) childhood flu immunisation programme. The programme started in 2013 and saw all children aged between two and three - and all children in primary six - offered the vaccine. Nearly all children will receive the vaccine through a nasal spray.

Four Psychedelics Have Been Shown to Cure Depression, Anxiety, PTSD—Even Alcoholism

Research into the medicinal properties of psychedelics has been underway for decades. Scientists have found drugs like MDMA, LSD, and magic mushrooms can be used to treat anxiety, depression, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and even addiction. And, yet, the government continues to block research and enforce policies that criminalise the use of the drugs.

Currently, psychedelics are categorized as a Schedule I substance by the DEA, which means they are believed to have high potential for abuse and are banned for medical use.  Despite this, there has been a recent resurgence of research into the potential healing properties of these substances. Earlier this year, celebrity journalist Amber Lyon left her post at CNN to start a website entirely dedicated to the benefits of psychedelics for psychological healing. And Swiss researchers also published results of a drug trial exploring possible medical uses of LSD—the first trial of its kind in nearly 40 years.

  • Comments were made by the new British Science Association president

  • Mr Paterson, who was sacked by David Cameron in July, has said he believes the negative impact of global warming has been exaggerated
  • He also targeted lobby groups such as that run by Lord Nigel Lawson
  • 'Politicians live in a world where the strength of their rhetoric means much more than scientific content,' Sir Paul said

UK Fracking Likely to Destroy More Jobs Than Created

Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, in the United Kingdom would destroy more jobs than it is creating according to the analysis of a UK government report, environment charity Friends of the Earth Cymru said. "We've been told that fracking could be a massive boost to employment and bring much-needed jobs. But beneath the hype, the hard truth is that even a full expansion of the fracking industry would mean an employment peak of just four years, and only around 200 low-paying jobs for the people of Wales,” the charity’s director Gareth Clubb said.

The 2013 report, “Strategic Environmental Assessment for Further Onshore Oil and Gas Licensing” commissioned by the British government, revealed under recent analysis that the promise of some 16,000 to 32,000 jobs across the country did not take into consideration the impact of fracking in other employment sectors.

As a result of fracking, jobs currently employing some 100,000 people in renewable energy, agriculture and tourism will greatly decline. In Wales, attractive high-paying jobs resulting from fracking will likely be given to specialized individuals from outside the country leaving at best 240 low-paying four-year temporary jobs to locals, WalesOnline reported.

British Constitution Group Conference

Saturday 1 November 2014, The Ramada Birmingham-Sutton Coldfield Hotel – part of the “Your Constitution – Your Health” Weekend.

The 1st November is significant in that there are a considerable number of UK Parliamentary powers being transferred to Brussels that day (and no doubt will have an effect on Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). The Nice Treaty and the Lisbon Treaty finally kick in to action, but what does that mean in a day-to-day environment for the average Joe? www.britishconstitutiongroup.com/
